Susan Elizabeth Wohlgemuth

Dateline; Spring Grove, MN Susan (Sue) Wohlgemuth fell asleep in the arms of Jesus her Savior on September 30, 2024, at Mayo Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Susan Elizabeth (McKee) Wohlgemuth was born on July 1, 1947, in Findlay, Ohio to Reid and Roberta McKee. Two brothers, Steven and David, and a sister, Kathryn would follow later making their family complete. As a young girl she would realize her need of a Savior and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. This faith in the Lord Jesus would serve her well as an anchor and a hope as she faced the trials and tests of life. Sue’s parents would heed the call to a warmer climate in the early 1950’s, packing their family of 5 into their trailer home and moving to California. After a few years in the Lancaster/Palmdale area Dad bought a finish-it-yourself home and some lots in Yermo, California on the high desert. Sue graduated high school in Barstow, CA in 1965. After a year at Barstow Junior College, she and a friend decided to go to Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri. It was her first year of college that she and Dick met and began dating. Sue and Dick were married on July 19, 1969, in Yermo (CA) Bible Church. After the wedding Dick and Sue headed for Dallas, Texas where Dick enrolled in Dallas Theological Seminary. They both worked during those seminary years, but Sue also finished her degree and graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education in the summer of 1972. Dick would graduate from Dallas Seminary in 1973, and Sue would earn her PHT (Putting Hubby Through) degree from the wives’ fellowship of DTS. Sue would faithfully serve as a pastor’s wife in churches in Norris, SD, Meade, KS, Munich, ND, Spring Grove, MN and New Albin, Iowa. Sue would find great joy in serving alongside Dick as a pastor’s wife-visiting in the home of church members, leading the opening chorus time in Sunday School, teaching Sunday School, directing children’s Christmas musicals, joining in the women’s groups in the various churches-being a supportive and encouraging pastor’s wife. Sue and Dick would welcome six children into their family-two boys and four girls. Over the years Sue lent her creativity to many projects, sewing dresses for the girls on Holidays and special occasions, a three piece suit for a little Jedpo, dolls and clothes, quilts and blankets, and many other items. She had an endless supply of craft items to use for any idea. Her baking and Sunday dinners are well remembered. She especially enjoyed searching for small gifts to give to her family members in Christmas stockings, Easter baskets, Advent calendars, and Valentines. She enjoyed being a member of the Piecemaker’s Quilting Club in Spring Grove. Sue has been packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child for about 30 years. In the last few years this became a passion/obsession. She found joy in buying and packing gift items in the shoelboxes that would be used to introduce children to the greatest gift of all, receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. Cherishing her memory are her husband, Dick; her 4 daughters: Jennifer of Minneapolis, MN, Jamie (Scott) Savoy of Westwood, NJ, Jill (Ed) Westen of York, PA, and Janae (Pat) Gallagher of Oakdale, MN, 4 grandchildren: Tristan and Tabitha Savoy and EJ Desi Westen, her siblings Steven, Kathryn and David. Preceded her in death were her parents Reid and Roberta McKee, and her 2 sons- Jeremy Todd, and Jed Luke. In lieu of flowers the family would suggest memorial gifts to Operation Christmas Child, a ministry which she heartily gave herself to. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Christian Community Church in New Albin, IA Pastor Dick Wohlgemuth will officiate. A fellowship luncheon will follow at New Albin Community Center. Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove is assisting the family with arrangements.
