Palmer Kenneth Ovestrud

December 29, 1929 - July 24, 2014

Palmer Kenneth Ovestrud passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on July 24, at the age of 84 at Green Lea Manor in Mable MN. Palmer was born on December 12, 1929 to Knute and Pauleen (Blake) Olson in Ada, MN. Palmer was adopted in 1938 by Ernest and Barbo (Bergsgaard) Ovestrud. Palmer was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 11, 1944. He attended school at Spring Grove School where he played football and was on the first team to attend the state championship and win. He graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1950. He later served in the Military in 1953 and 1954 in Manheim Germany where he was also in the Korean War. He lived in Spring Grove where he first started farming with his father on his farm before starting his own farm. Farming was something that he was proud of and enjoyed. Palmer was one of the first members of the Bear Creek Shed Program. Palmer loved collecting Red Tractors and enjoyed Copenhagen and his cats! We have all been told that everything happens for a reason and although Palmer had no biological children, Debbie Longmire became his. And he became ours! Their wonderful storey began back in 2007 when Debbie stopped by his farm to ask if she could borrow a pair of bib overalls for a project. She saw he was alone and was not able to keep up with his home and cats. She befriended Palmer and started to help him take care of his home. Palmer and Debbie became great friends and created a bond that grew deeper and deeper. He became apart of our family and feels like he has always been there with us. He attended all of our family functions, Holidays and weddings. Best of all he became a grandpa to Meghann (Longmire) Ybarra and Jennifer (Moore) Dehning, and Joel Moore’s children. He enjoyed all his grand-babies and they loved and cherished him. The kids enjoyed him and all his animals on his farm! Papa Palmer will be missed deeply by us all. But he left this word happy and full of LOVE! He is preceded in death by his biological parents Knute and Pauleen Olson. His adopted parents Ernest and Barbo Ovestrud, and all his biological siblings: Emma, Charles, Pearl, Knute, and Raymond Olson. He is further survived by his special friend Debra Longmire. And many nieces and nephews including; Susan (and Richard) Morris of Las Vegas, Roger Olson Sartell of Minnesota, Parker Olson Sartell of Minnesota, Sabrina (and Gary) Moldoch Sewell of New Jersey, Katelyn and Anabelle Moldoch Sewell of New Jersey, Bryce Olson Sartell of Minnesota, Milly Kyseth, Jerry (and Jenny) Kyseth of Spring Grove, Donald (and Karen) Bentley of Farmington, Merlin (and Alice) Bentley and many Bergsgaards. He was a jokester and a fun loving Norwegian! Please come and share your memories with us. Visitation will be Sunday, July 27th from 2:00-4:00 at the Roble Funeral Home, 225 E Main Street, Spring Grove, MN 55974. The funeral will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour before the service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 203 East Main Street, Spring Grove, MN 55974. In lieu of flowers memorials should be donated to the Spring Grove Aquatic Center.
