Mark Ronald Peterson

Mark Ronald Peterson, a long-standing pillar of the Spring Grove, Minnesota community sadly passed away on Thursday, June 22 nd , 2023 at Gundersen Health System. Mark Ronald Peterson was born July 3 rd,1958 to Ronald and Norma (Oliver) Peterson in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Through his young life, he grew up on the Sterling Oil bulk plant near Retreat, WI that was owned and operated by his parents. In 1971, his family moved to their dairy farm near Ferryville, WI. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1976. He went on to marry Lori Anderson on April 1 st , 1978. To this union came three sons, Mark Jr., Derrik and Daron. Mark was lucky enough to find love twice in his life, he married Mary (Stiner) Ranzenberger on June 6 th,1998. To this union came one son, Nicholas. After high school, he worked for the family farm and for Design Homes in Prairie Du Chien, WI. He then went on to work for local farming implement companies. In 1986, Mark began working with his good and life-long friend Jerry Martell at Modern Clean-Up Service. Later in life, he went on to work for another life-long friend Chuck Gavin at Ken’s Small Engine until his retirement. Mark enjoyed being outdoors by giving tractor rides behind his beloved 1949 Oliver tractor, going to tractor shows, being involved in many local parades, taking long rides on his motorcycle, gardening and working in his garage. He also enjoyed telling long stories, thinking he was a comedian (well maybe he should have been), reading about all the varieties of tractors, watching Perry Mason, and listening to 70’s rock music. Mark wore many titles over the years in his family and in the community. His favorite titles were dad, grandpa and President of the Spring Grove Lions Club. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities, helping them learn to build things, feeding them breakfast, teaching them about tractors, and most of all giving them the good ole grandpa kisses. He had a heart of gold and everyone he met enjoyed his company. Mark would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mark leaves behind many loved ones. His children, Mark (Amy) Peterson of New Albin, IA and their children Makena and Neva; Derrik Peterson of Chatfield, MN; Daron (Amber) Peterson of LaCrescent, MN and their children Sawyer and Phoenix; Nicholas (Kayla Russie) Peterson of Spring Grove, MN and his daughter Olyviah. His stepchildren Joshua (Nicci) Ranzenberger of Spring Grove, MN and their children Madison, Piper, Peyton, Dashua, Tucker and Maverick; Summer (Kevin) Garlitch of Lake City, MN. His siblings, one brother Greg Peterson of DeSoto, WI and his son Daniel of Telluride, CO; one sister Karen (Bill) Chaput of Blaine, WA and their children Emma Chaput of San Diego, CA and Lacey (Phil) Wojtowicz of Lodi,WI and their son Reid. A special aunt Clarice (Jim) Munson of Sparta, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Peterson, his parents, and his grandparents. Honorary Pallbearers: Jerry Martell, Marvin Cleven, Chuck Gavin, and Wayne Hahn There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 8 th , 2023 at Spring Grove Fest building in Spring Grove, MN. It will be held from 3-9p.m. with a prayer service and eulogy at 5p.m. Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove is in charge of arrangements. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Walnut Mound Cemetery in Retreat, WI.
