Gary Leigh Holland

Dateline; Spring Grove, MN Dateline; Spring Grove, MN Gary Leigh Holland, 82, of Spring Grove, MN passed away peacefully on his farm surrounded by his family on August 8, 2025. Gary was born on April 17, 1943, to James and Palma Holland. Gary grew up in Spring Grove and graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1961. In school, seating was assigned in alphabetical order landing Gary sitting behind Harriet Gjere, and that is where their love story began. Gary and Harriet became high school sweethearts and married at Big Canoe Church on June 8, 1962. They spent 63 years together working side by side at Trane and on the farm. Gary and Harriet also enjoyed traveling by boat, plane and train. Gary’s most memorable trips were to Alaska, Arizona and Glacier Park. Gary worked a variety of jobs, but his true passion was farming. Gary believed his farm was a gift from God and spent 58 years growing his crops and family. Gary’s hands, though worn from working in the fields, were filled with a love for others. Gary was a man of many talents. Gary enjoyed photography and had pictures published at Epcot and in calendars. Gary also spent time woodworking, hunting and collecting tractors. More recently, Gary took up baking and enjoyed using his family as the taste testers. Gary is survived by his wife Harriet; children Brian Holland, Sr., Bonnie Schwartzhoff and Brad Holland. Grandchildren Brandon (Michelle) Holland, Brittany Cook, Kayla (Brody) Baxter, Brian Holland Jr., Jordyn Holland and Dylan Holland. Seven great grandchildren and siblings Jerald Holland, Patty (Robert) Tollefsrud, Darleen Hanson, Beverly Kallis, Richard (Loretta) Holland, sister-in laws Terry Holland and Marcia Holland and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dean Holland, David Holland and Roger Holland, sisters-in-law Anne Holland and Kate Holland, brother-in-law Rodney Kallis and Leroy Hanson, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Virgil & Dianne Sherburne. Nephews Gordy and Kevin Kallis, Donnie Hanson and Joe Holland, nieces Kelly Swee and Debby Schuster. Gary will be dearly missed and remembered by his family and friends. Memorial service will be 11am Wednesday August 13 th at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer. Visitation will be one hour prior to memorial service. Pastor Lane Zaffke will officiate.
